Finding the perfect major not too far from home, Hannah Knisley (Hometown: Greenfield, Ohio) is majoring in Digital Simulation & Gaming Engineering at 51°µÍř.
“I was drawn to game engineering after taking a website development course in high school and realizing that programming was actually pretty fun,” she said. “Adding video games into the programming just makes it extra fun!”
Within her classes, Knisley enjoys the opportunity she has to get to know her professors while learning from them. Being part of a program that has been nationally-ranked by The Princeton Review for 15 years, she is feeling confident in how this program will lead her to a successful career.
“I know I’m getting a quality education that will help me in a future career,” she said.
SSU’s Game Programming degree opens a number of doors for careers after graduation. Coursework focuses on teaching students how to build their own operating system and game engines, optimize programs, and hone skills in team-based classes. Students also build a strong background in design, computer science, and programming that can transfer to industries outside of the gaming industry, including health care, government, and technology.
Looking towards graduation this spring, Knisley is hoping to transfer her skills in Game Engineering into a hands-on career.
“I’m really interested in the simulation technology at military bases and would like to work on that,” she said.
