A graduate level, 24-credit hour program offering coursework leading to licensure as a teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. The program is designed to be completed in one year and applicants must hold a valid Ohio teaching license. Coursework is mostly online instruction with extensive face-to-face field experiences.

Summer – 9.0 semester hours
- EDHI6401: Deafness
- ASL I: American Sign Language I
- ASL II: American Sign Language II
Fall – 5.0 semester hours
- EDHI6402: ÌýLanguage Development & Literacy for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students
- EDHI6403: Aural Habilitation
Spring – 6.0 semester hours
- EDHI6404: Diagnostic & Assessment Methods for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students
- EDHI6405: Curriculum & Instructional Methods for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students
Summer – 4.0 semester hours
- EDHI6406: The Dual Sensory Impaired/Intense Needs of Deaf or Hard of Hearing Students
- EDHI6407: Practicum Intervention Specialist Hearing Impaired

Tuition Support
Financial support is provided by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, Office for Exceptional Children.
Online Coursework
All program coursework is delivered online using a common curriculum, allowing participants to remain where they already live and work while completing the program. Fieldwork and Practicum components are face-to-face.

The application deadline is March 15.Ìý
The program is a selective admission program and acceptance is not guaranteed. Students will be notified of acceptance by mid-April.
Application requirements
- Complete an
- Evidence of a B.S. or B.A. degree from an accredited institution.
- Evidence of an overall GPA of 2.75 or greater
- Copy of teaching license
- Two letters of reference from educational or professional sources
- Professional statement including career goals (1-2 pages)
What to include in your professional statement:
- Provide a brief description of your educational background.
- Provide a brief description of your current employment.
- Explain your experience of working with an individual with hearing impairment.
- Provide reasons why you believe that you would be an excellent candidate for the program.
- Explain your goals and what you hope to gain from the program.
