Our Purpose
The Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews all research with human research participants conducted by faculty, staff and students associated with Shawnee State. The IRB also reviews research involving the institution and its students as research participants.
Our goal is to provide protection for all human research participants.
Does your research need IRBÂ approval?
A project requires IRB review if it includes both research and human subjects.
Research is defined as a systematic investigation, that is designed to develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge. Examples include research development, testing, and evaluation. It does not include oral histories or journalism. The IRB will make a final determination of whether or not a study requires IRB review.
