51°”Íűâs Professor of History & Religious Studies, Dr. Lavanya Vemsani, recently released her latest books entitled âReframing India in World Historyâ and âHandbook of Indian Historyâ.
Published by Lexington Press & Bloomsbury, âReframing India in World Historyâ explores patterns of civilization that are indigenous to India to investigate its history from the beginning to the present. The book revisits old theories and reevaluates them in light of new evidence, providing a fresh outlook on Indiaâs long history.Â
ââReframing India in World Historyâ is a culmination of my research over a decade into the deeper understanding of history,â said Dr. Vemsani. âI dedicated this work to all the colonized peoples of the world since colonization may have ended but many of the colonized nations, even though independent, carry the burden of colonial knowledge which they must destroy to find true independence.â
âHandbook of Indian Historyâ is published by Springer and covers a new and innovative history of India by presenting a broad range of topics spanning the extensive timeline of Indian history. From early history to the Independence movement to post-Independent India, the book provides a deeper analysis of Indian history supported by new data.
âThe âHandbook of Indian Historyâ brings together new research on important subjects of Indian history with contributions from exceptional scholars from across the world,â said Dr. Vemsani. âBoth books â published at the turn of the new year â contribute tremendously to decolonizing Indian history.â
A professor at SSU since 2006, Dr. Vemsani has been widely acclaimed for her research and teaching in history, publishing several books in addition to numerous articles. In 2021 it was announced Dr. Vemsani was one of over 800 U.S. citizens to receive a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award in History to engage in cutting-edge research and expand her professional network.Â
