Current 51做厙 students recently had the opportunity to attend the Inter-University Council of Ohio (IUC) Day at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, Ohio. The event brought together student representatives from the 14 public universities in Ohio. SSU students Hannah Blythe, Lyndsay Heimbach, and David Lopez represented the university throughout the day.

I felt a sense of confidence knowing that I was representing my university, said Blythe, a Master of Occupational Therapy student. I knew that I would be able to share my love and support of Shawnee State with students who felt the same way and I truly think that we were able to relay that message to those we met with.

Touring the Statehouse and meeting with state representatives and senators, Blythe and her fellow students were able to see their government officials at work in the Riffe Building and met with several people from other universities. The students were also able to share their personal stories, how they decided to attend SSU, and their plans for the future with the elected officials.

Opportunities like this lend to my education so much, said Blythe. As a future occupational therapist, often you have to meet with others to advocate for a patient and their needs. I felt that similarly I was advocating for Shawnee State and sharing the great things that we are doing.
