“The NBRC exam is a rigorous exam that is required to become a Respiratory Therapist,” said SSU’s Respiratory Therapy Program Director Amy France. “This year we are excited to say that the Class of 2025 had a 100% pass rate on the NBRC credentialing exam. They not only are all credentialed respiratory therapists, but they all did it very quickly. This group graduated in May 2025 and all were credentialed July 2025.”

Respiratory Therapy students in the Class of 2025 took the National Board for Respiratory Care exam which provides the opportunity for graduates to prove readiness for excellence in patient care. Since 1960, the exam has credentialed over 300,000 practitioners in specific areas of respiratory care including as a Certified Respiratory Therapist, a Registered Respiratory Therapist, a Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist, a Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist, an Adult Critical Care Specialist, a Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist, a Sleep Disorders Specialist, and an Asthma Educator Specialist (AE-C).

“I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication these graduates put in and I wish them all the best,” said France.

SSU’s Respiratory Therapy program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Therapy and offers students a hands-on experience through clinical and laboratory settings. During the five-semester program, students learn to care for patients of all ages experiencing different breathing problems such as asthma and COPD. Graduates have found work in hospitals, private practice facilities, sleep disorder centers, health care research institutions, home health care agencies, and retirement centers, among many other employers.
